A family dispute in Georgia resulted in gunfire, killing four people, including one Indian. The Indian Embassy described the incident as unfortunate and assured assistance.

New York: Four people, including an Indian national, were killed in a shooting incident to an alleged family dispute in the US state of Georgia, the Indian Embassy in Atlanta said. According to local media reports, four people were killed in the shooting in Lawrenceville city early Thursday morning, while three children were inside the house at the time of the incident. 

The Indian Consulate in Atlanta expressed grief over the shooting incident and said the alleged attacker has been arrested and all possible assistance is being provided to the victim’s family.

“We are deeply saddened by the shooting incident to an alleged family dispute. An Indian national was among those killed in the incident. The alleged attacker has been arrested and all possible assistance is being provided to the victim’s family,” the Indian Consulate posted on the social media platform X. 

Fox5 Atlanta reported that the suspect was identified as 51-year-old Vijay Kumar of Atlanta. According to Gwinnett County police, the deceased were identified as Kumar’s wife, Meemu Dogra (43), Gaurav Kumar (33), Nidhi Chander (37), and Harish Chander (38). 

The suspect has been charged with aggravated assault, murder, murder with malicious intent, and cruelty to children, the report said. Police received a report from the 1000 block of Brook Ivy Court around 2:30 a.m. Thursday (local time). Upon arriving, officers found the bodies of four adults inside the home, all with gunshot wounds, according to the report. 

Police officials said three children were present when the shooting began. They hid in a closet for their safety. Investigators said one of the children managed to call 911 and provide crucial information, prompting police officers to arrive at the scene within minutes. The children were safe and later rescued by a family member.
