T20 World Cup 2026: ICC Replaces Bangladesh with Scotland After India Travel Dispute
Cricket Gully | January 25, 2026 2:39 AM CST

It’s now official that Bangladesh will not be taking part in the T20 World Cup 2026. After they declined to travel to India, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to replace them with Scotland in Group C. According to Cricbuzz, the ICC has reached out to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to inform them of this decision.

Earlier today, it was revealed that ICC Chairman Jay Shah would announce the final verdict by the end of the day, and that’s exactly what happened.

Just two days ago, the ICC had given the BCB a 24-hour ultimatum to rethink their position. After discussions with the Bangladesh government, the BCB concluded that their players wouldn’t be safe in India and stood firm on their demand for relocation.

Yesterday, the BCB sought help from the ICC’s independent Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) in hopes of moving their matches from India to Sri Lanka, but that plan fell through. The ICC remained steadfast. Bangladesh had to either play the T20 World Cup in India or withdraw from the tournament.

While the ICC hadn’t officially confirmed it, reports had indicated that Scotland would step in if Bangladesh chose to withdraw from the T20 World Cup. And it turns out those reports were spot on. Scotland will now compete against Italy, Nepal, England, and the West Indies in Group C, with the schedule staying the same.

Bangladesh Withdraws, Scotland Steps In

In the end, Bangladesh’s decision to withdraw from the T20 World Cup 2026 is a pivotal moment for international cricket. Despite some last-minute discussions and appeals, the ICC held firm on its stance, leaving Bangladesh with no choice but to step back after they declined to travel to India.

As anticipated, Scotland has taken their spot, ensuring that the tournament's structure and schedule remain intact. While this news is certainly disappointing for Bangladeshi fans, the World Cup will continue as planned. Now, all eyes will be on Scotland as they gear up to face some tough competition in Group C.
