Police in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, have uncovered a major religious conversion racket allegedly operating under the cover of multiple gyms. So far, six people have been arrested, including a head constable, while two accused remain absconding. A reward of ₹25,000 each has been announced for the fugitives, and lookout notices have been issued.
Victims Lured Through Friendship and PressureAccording to Superintendent of Police Somen Burma, the case came to light after two victims filed separate complaints at Kotwali Dehat police station. The complainants alleged that young men at local gyms first befriended them and later pressured and blackmailed them into changing their religion.
Gyms Used as Front for Illegal ActivitiesDuring the investigation, police identified Zaheer, owner of KGN-01 Gym, as a key accused. Other gang members were linked to gyms named KGN-02, KGN-03, B-Fit, and Iron Fire. Authorities have sealed all five gyms to prevent tampering with evidence.
Police Personnel Involvement Raises AlarmsThe case took a serious turn when police arrested Farid Ahmed, one of the main accused, following an encounter. Shortly afterward, Head Constable Irshad Khan, posted with the Bhadohi Government Railway Police (GRP), was also taken into custody, shocking law enforcement circles.
List of Arrested and Absconding AccusedThose arrested include Mohammad Sheikh Ali Alam, Faisal Khan, Zaheer, Shadab, Farid Ahmed, and Head Constable Irshad Khan. Two other accused, Imran and Lucky, are currently on the run.
Police officials said further investigation is ongoing and more arrests may follow as the network’s activities are examined in detail.
