Harpal Singh Sokhi: From Culinary Shows to Comedy

Harpal Singh Sokhi, a renowned celebrity chef, has gained immense popularity through his appearance in the third season of Laughter Chefs. Previously, he showcased his culinary skills in shows like Turban Tadka and Made in Punjab, where his signature phrase ‘Namak shamak’ captured the audience's attention.

How has Laughter Chefs impacted your career?

Absolutely, Laughter Chefs has significantly boosted my recognition. It feels rewarding to see our hard work paying off.

Did you always know you had a knack for comedy?

I've always enjoyed joking around with friends. During my time on Turban Tadka, I incorporated humor into cooking, which resonated well with viewers. I further refined my comedic timing on Laughter Chefs.

What food trends are you noticing today?

Currently, I observe a rise in small plate servings, a focus on regional cuisines, and a trend towards ingredient-centric dishes. There's also a fascinating blend of international ingredients in various recipes. At my restaurant, Karigari, we are reimagining traditional recipes by infusing them with global flavors and presenting rural dishes in a more appealing way.

Are you interested in acting in a comedy film?

I've appeared in two films, including Bank Chor alongside Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi. I'm definitely open to more film opportunities.

Having participated in shows like Channa Mereya, would you consider a comedy TV show?

Yes, my experience in fiction shows has taught me about character acting. While cooking shows allow me to be myself, Channa Mereya helped me understand the nuances of portraying a character. I'm open to both comedy and fiction shows, as well as film projects.
