Music and movement form the backbone of Hindi cinema, giving Bollywood its unmistakable rhythm and emotional pull. A song truly comes alive only when actors translate its energy into expressive dance. Celebrated choreographer Bosco Martis recently reflected on this craft, offering behind-the-scenes insights into some of the most demanding numbers he has designed over the years. Speaking to Mirchi Plus, Bosco shared that narrowing down the toughest songs was not easy, as several performances tested patience, endurance, and precision.
He began by recalling his experience on Bang Bang, featuring Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif. One of the biggest challenges during the filming of Tu Meri was waiting nearly five hours just to gain access to the dance floor. Every detail had to align perfectly, from the surface beneath their feet to how gravity interacted with the performers’ movements and even how their footwear responded to the floor. Bosco explained that Hrithik, in particular, needs complete comfort with his surroundings before he can truly lose himself in a song. Until the floor and shoes feel right to him, he finds it difficult to enjoy the performance fully.
Bosco also revealed that Hrithik endured intense physical discomfort while shooting the now-famous Senorita sequence in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, pushing through significant pain to deliver a flawless result on screen.
Shifting focus to Ranbir Kapoor, Bosco fondly remembered choreographing Tai Tai Phish from Chillar Party. With only six hours available for the shoot, the team had to work at lightning speed. Despite the time pressure, the song turned out to be joyful and effortless, largely because of Ranbir’s natural ease as a performer. Bosco noted that watching Ranbir dance feels refreshing and inclusive, making viewers believe they could dance too. He compared this rare quality to Govinda, whose performances radiate happiness and invite the audience to share in the joy.
Finally, Bosco spoke about Ranveer Singh’s unmatched stamina and resilience. Describing him as a powerhouse of energy, he said Ranveer often feels unsatisfied unless he has pushed himself to the brink. Injuries are almost routine during their collaborations. While filming on the Howrah Bridge, Ranveer suffered a leg injury that required several stitches, yet his enthusiasm never dipped. He continued performing with undiminished spirit, dancing through pain while ensuring the audience saw only confidence and charisma.
