Kathmandu. Voting has started today for 18 seats of the National Assembly, the upper house of the Parliament, which are falling vacant from March 4.
According to Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Bhattarai, voting started at 9 am on Sunday at designated polling centers in the capitals of all seven provinces of the country. Voting will continue till 3 pm.
Out of these 18 seats, election has been held unopposed on one seat of Khas Arya category of Kosi region. Sunil Bahadur Thapa of Nepali Congress has been elected unopposed on this seat. Elections are being held today for the remaining 17 vacant seats.
According to Bhattarai, in the National Assembly elections, all the members of the Provincial Assembly, mayors and deputy mayors of all municipalities, sub-metropolitan municipalities and metropolitan municipalities and presidents and vice-presidents of all village municipalities are voters.
The Commission also informed that the vote weighting previously determined for the National Assembly elections has been amended, as some representatives have resigned and filed their candidature for the House of Representatives elections to be held on March 5.
