On Saturday, a significant fire erupted in a four-story building located in the Nampally area of Hyderabad, raising concerns that five individuals may be trapped inside, according to officials.
The building, which houses furniture and various other shops, has prompted a swift response from emergency services. V.C. Sajjanar, the police commissioner of Hyderabad, reported that firefighters, police, and personnel from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) are actively engaged in rescue efforts, utilizing hydraulic lifts to access the upper floors.
Sajjanar, who is overseeing the rescue operations, stated that efforts to save those trapped are ongoing. He noted, 'While the fire has been brought under control, heavy smoke is making it challenging for rescuers to enter the building.'
The individuals believed to be trapped include a security guard and family members of employees working in the building. Arrangements had been made for employees to stay in the basement.
The Nampally area is known for its numerous furniture stores. Vikram Singh Mann, the Director General of Fire and Disaster Response, informed reporters that the basement of the building is designated solely for parking, and regulations prohibit people from residing or storing items there.
Telangana's Revenue Minister P. Srinivas Reddy expressed concern over the fire incident and instructed officials to make every effort to rescue those trapped.
An official statement indicated that Reddy has directed the Special Chief Secretary for Disaster Management, Arvind Kumar, to visit the site and provide a report. Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi mentioned that he is in contact with officials present at the scene following the fire incident.
