In a significant ruling, a court in Gonda district, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced two individuals to life imprisonment for their involvement in the gang rape of a minor girl. This information was shared by the district government advocate (criminal), Basant Shukla, on Saturday.
The court found both defendants guilty and imposed a life sentence along with a fine of ₹60,000 each. Shukla noted that the incident occurred on August 20, 2022, when a woman filed a written complaint at the Wazirganj police station.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that Durgesh and Ramashri had sexually assaulted her underage daughter. Following an investigation, the police confirmed the allegations and arrested both suspects.
On December 2, 2023, the then Circle Officer, Sansar Singh Rathi, submitted the charge sheet to the court. The Additional District Judge (POCSO), Nirbhay Prakash, convicted the two accused, Durgesh alias Banthe Chauhan and Ramashri alias Sarau Pal, sentencing them to rigorous life imprisonment and imposing a fine of ₹60,000.
