Chelsea have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Jeremy Jacquet after Stade Rennais boss Habib Beye acknowledged that anything remains possible before the transfer window slams shut. The Blues are in ongoing discussions with the Ligue 1 club, who are reluctant to lose the 20-year-old during the current campaign. One option under consideration would see the France Under-21 international join Chelsea immediately before returning to Roazhon Park on loan for the remainder of the season.

Jacquet is understood to be enthusiastic about a move to Stamford Bridge if terms can be agreed. And Beye admitted: "There are still a few days left in the transfer window; anything can happen. We need things to be as calm as possible." A valuation of £60million has been mooted, with Beye's remarks coming shortly after he hinted that a sale could occur for economic reasons.

He commented: "I'm amazed by the calm with which he's handling this situation. I felt he was very focused on what he's currently experiencing.

"There's an economic reality, and I won't always have the final say. What I said was that when you're a team like Stade Rennais and you have high ambitions, as a coach, I want to keep my best players and have the strongest team possible. Jeremy is one of those players.

"We've been very, very clear about Jeremy's situation; he's stable, and that's the most important thing for us. There are still a few days left in the transfer window.

"Anything can happen. We need things to be as calm as possible, which would be best for me."

When questioned about the prospect of signing Jacquet prior to his team's win over Pafos, Liam Rosenior commented: "You'll know about me, I don't speak about players at other clubs until something is agreed with any player.

"I think it's so disrespectful. If I was a manager of another team and a manager was speaking about my player, I wouldn't be a happy person. So whether it's true or whether it's not, I'll speak about that at the right time."

Nevertheless, Rosenior insists any new signings must make a 'clear impact' on the squad. He added: "So we have to be very selective at this stage of the season.

"If we do bring in the right player in a certain position, they have to have a clear impact on the team."
