Sitapur. In Sitapur district, negligence of the Public Works Department and the contractor has proved fatal. Here a woman died in a tragic road accident near the under construction canal culvert at Kazi Kamalpur intersection in Imalia Sultanpur area. There is an atmosphere of anger in the area after the accident. According to the information, Rajkishore, resident of Alawalpur village of Hargaon police station area, along with his wife Meena Devi had come to her in-laws house Gaura Jalalpur, Imalia Sultanpur police station by bike.

While returning home on Sunday afternoon, his bike went out of control due to the bad condition of the road on the under construction canal culvert near Kazi Kamalpur intersection. Meanwhile, Meena Devi, a woman riding a bike, got hit by a tractor-trolley coming from the front. Meena Devi was seriously injured in the accident. As soon as the information was received, Qazi Kamalpur outpost incharge Rajkumar Tihar and outpost incharge Inderjeet Singh reached the spot with the police force. The police immediately sent the injured woman in a private vehicle to the Community Health Center area for treatment, where the doctors declared her dead.

Local people say that the construction of Kazi Kamalpur canal culvert has been going on for the last three months, but neither proper barricading has been done nor warning boards have been installed. Due to gross negligence in construction work, traffic jams and accidents are happening here every day. People allege that if the construction of the culvert had been completed on time, a woman’s life could have been saved. At present, the police have sent the body for post-mortem and have taken possession of the tractor trolley and started investigation. After the incident, serious questions have been raised on the functioning of the Public Works Department and the contractor.
