New Delhi: The midsize SUV segment in India is getting more competitive, and two of the newest models are the Skoda Kushaq facelift and the Tata Sierra. The Sierra has quickly made a mark with its bold design, modern features, and multiple engine options. The Kushaq, on the other hand, has received a facelift that adds some new features and updates its look.
Skoda has not revealed the facelifted Kushaq’s prices yet. The Tata Sierra petrol models are priced between Rs 11.49 lakh and Rs 20.99 lakh, while the diesel range costs between Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 21.29 lakh. The Sierra is on the higher side of the midsize SUV segment, and the Kushaq is expected to be more affordable.
Sierra vs Kushaq: Body
Kushaq and Sierra dimensions
Skoda has not officially shared the updated Kushaq’s dimensions, but since there are likely no major design changes, it is likely similar to the older model. That means the Sierra is bigger in every way. It has a stronger road presence, higher ground clearance, bigger wheels, and more space for passengers and luggage. The Kushaq has always been smaller compared to other SUVs in the segment, and the facelift doesn’t change that.
Sierra vs Kushaq: Engines and performanceBoth SUVs offer two petrol engines. The Kushaq’s base engine is a 3-cylinder turbocharged unit, while the Sierra’s base engine is a 4-cylinder naturally aspirated one. Even though the Sierra has a bigger engine, the Kushaq’s base engine produces slightly more power and torque. The automatic gearbox options are different too: the Kushaq comes with an 8-speed torque converter, while the Sierra has a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Both models have a 6-speed manual as standard.
For the higher-spec petrol engines, both SUVs have similar engine sizes and cylinders. Here, the Sierra produces slightly more power and torque than the Kushaq. Interestingly, the automatic gearbox types swap for the bigger engines—the Kushaq gets a dual-clutch, and the Sierra comes with a torque converter. Neither SUV offers a manual gearbox for the higher engine.
Sierra vs Kushaq: FeaturesThe facelifted Kushaq adds some features that were missing before, such as a panoramic sunroof, a larger digital instrument cluster, AI assistance, improved climate control, and a rear seat massage function.
However, the Sierra goes further and offers more advanced features. It has a triple-screen setup with a dedicated screen for the front passenger, a JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos, an augmented-reality head-up display, ambient lighting, multiple driving and terrain modes, Level 2 driver assistance, a ‘Boss’ mode for the front passenger seat, a powered tailgate, and many other extras. In terms of features, the Sierra is clearly ahead.
