A demonstrator in Minneapolis has reportedly bitten off a Homeland Security agent's finger on the same day an American man was fatally shot by a federal officer.

This shocking incident occurred just hours after distressing video footage emerged of Alex Pretti being killed by a Border Patrol agent. Department of Homeland Security officials have stated that one of their officers will lose a finger following an assault by a protester.

Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, shared a post stating: "In Minneapolis, these rioters attacked our law enforcement officer and one of them bit off our HSI officer's finger."

She further commented: "He will lose his finger."

This comes in the wake of Donald Trump's startling response to the fatal shooting of an American citizen by a federal agent.

McLaughlin also posted images of two individuals, a man and a woman, who are allegedly implicated in the incident, although their identities and exact involvement remain unconfirmed.

Alongside the images of the suspected individuals, there was a photograph of a severed finger in a container.

No specific details were provided about what led to the biting incident, apart from the fatal shooting earlier that day, but there is evident civil unrest across the city.

Earlier in the day, Alex Jeffrey Pretti, 37, an American citizen and ICU nurse, was shot dead by a federal agent. Reports suggest he was armed at the time, but he had a permit for the weapon.

Homeland Security issued a statement asserting that Petti "violently resisted" efforts to disarm him and was carrying a 9mm semi-automatic handgun along with two magazines.

Shocking footage of the incident has emerged online. In one video clip, a woman can be heard crying out: "That is police brutality! They are hitting that observer! They are kicking him in the face!"

Based on what she'd witnessed of his conduct, she identifies Pretti as an "observer."

Moments later, the crack of a gunshot rings out, sending her scrambling for safety whilst screaming: "What? What? What?"

After regaining her composure, she declares: "They have shot a man. They have shot a legal observer."

When her cries go unanswered, she urges her companion: "Call 911, call 911."

A visibly frightened young woman rushes towards the person filming. The woman behind the camera reassures her: "I know, I know, we keep each other safe, though."
