How to Check LPG in a Cylinder: If the gas runs out suddenly while cooking in the kitchen, the entire plan gets disrupted. This problem is especially troublesome during the morning rush or when guests are expected. Often, we have no idea how much gas is left in the cylinder. But the good news is that you can find out how much gas is left in your LPG cylinder using some simple home methods. No machine or technical knowledge is required for this.
1. Wet Cloth Method
This is considered the easiest and most reliable method. Take a wet cloth and wrap it around the cylinder from top to bottom. After a minute or two, remove the cloth. The part of the cylinder's body where the moisture dries quickly indicates the empty portion. The lower part, where the moisture dries slowly, is filled with gas. Wherever the cylinder feels cold and wet, that's where the gas is still present.
2. Checking by Weight
Every LPG cylinder has its empty weight written on it, which is called the tare weight. If you have a weighing machine, weigh the cylinder. Subtract the tare weight from the total weight. The remaining weight will be the weight of the gas left in the cylinder. A typical domestic cylinder usually contains 14.2 kg of gas.
3. Flame Indicator Method
If the stove flame is not burning as strongly as before, food is taking longer to cook, or the flame is repeatedly becoming weak, it could be a sign that the gas is about to run out. Although this method is not entirely accurate, it does provide an early indication.
4. Gas Level Indicator Device
Nowadays, small gadgets are also available in the market that can be attached to the outside of the cylinder to indicate the gas level. These gadgets can be magnetic or digital.
It's better to check the gas level regularly than to wait for the cylinder to run out completely. The wet cloth method is the easiest and safest. With this, you can find out, without any cost, how many more days the gas will last in your kitchen.
