A BBC Radio 2 star hit back at Vernon Kay live on air after he made a "low blow" remark. As Scott Mills handed the airwaves over to Vernon for his 9.30am slot on Monday's broadcast of his BBC Radio 2 show (January 26), he could be heard thanking his guest, Stephen Libby (winner of The Traitors), for his contributions.
Vernon then mischievously asked Scott: "Is that you palming off Stephen?" In response, the Radio 2 Breakfast Show host pointed out that they had now moved into Vernon’s show time, prompting his co-star to fire off a savage dig about some home improvements. Vernon said: "Well, you know, I heard you're having a new floor laid, so you need the extra two minutes", as Scott burst out laughing with a series of deep guffaws.
Scott promptly quipped: "That is a low blow from you, Kay." An amused Vernon could then be heard asking in a high-pitched voice what was wrong with his comment, as the focus turned back to Stephen. Scott suggested that if Vernon wanted to interview The Traitors star, he could "arrange" it.

In the ensuing back and forth, Vernonasked Stephen about the size of his iconic jumpsuit from the BBC series, later noting that he himself would likely need an "XL". In a final dig at Scott’s home renovations, when he suggested they move on to a song, Vernon cheekily swiped: "Do you wanna verve into underfloor heating, Scott? It will give you an extra couple more minutes?"
Scott simply told him to "stop it", but amusingly conceded that he would enjoy the "warmth" on his feet, before the pair said their farewells, both declaring: "Love you, bye!" In other news, reports emerged earlier this month that Vernon and his wife, former Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly, had seemingly gone through a significant family change.
The couple's eldest daughter, Phoebe, posted a photo of herself at a bar in New York City on her Instagram Stories, with the Empire State Building visible in the background. She captioned the post with words that suggested she could have moved across the pond, writing: "Home for a while..."
In further hints, Phoebe also added to her bio on the profile: "Heyyyy LDN/NYC", although she has not revealed why she may have moved to the States, or how long she will be there for. However, reports indicate that the move must have been recent, as she was in the UK for the end of Tess' stint on Strictly in December.
In September 2025, Tess, who had fronted Strictlysince 2004, released a statement with co-host Claudia Winkleman, announcing that they would both be parting ways with the show. In a video on Instagram, Tess and Claudia said: "We have loved working as a duo and hosting Strictly has been an absolute dream. We were always going to leave together, and now feels like the right time.
"We will have the greatest rest of this amazing series, and we just want to say an enormous thank you to the BBC and to every single person who works on the show. They're the most brilliant team, and we'll miss them every day. We will cry when we say the last 'keep dancing', but we will continue to say it to each other. Just possibly in tracksuit bottoms at home while holding some pizza."
Following their final show, Phoebe shared words of support on Instagram, dubbing the final instalment "incredible". She added that the "love and joy" the show creates is "something magical", and she felt "lucky" to have been able to see her mum work with the "absolute best people", describing the situation as an "emotional one".
She added: "Mum, you are a true inspiration to me. I will hold all these Strictly memories close to my heart forever. It's been in my life since the day mum was pregnant with me, so I don't know life without Strictly, and for that reason, I will forever be the show's number one fan."
