While the Cotswolds has become the home for several celebrities, including the Beckhams and King Charles and Queen Camilla among others, many people may not know that a former Hollywood A-lister has also recently relocated to the picturesque region.

For years,Ellen DeGeneres, who celebrates her 68th birthday today (January 26), was a familiar face in America, and indeed throughout Britain, with the comedian best recognised for her long-running daytime chat show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The presenter welcomed various celebrity guests daily, while dancing with audience members and encouraging everyone to 'be kind to one another'. The programme premiered on September 8, 2003, and continued for almost 20 years, securing 61 daytime Emmy awards from a remarkable 171 nominations.

The clip detailed how former staff members from DeGeneres' chat show accused the star of bullying behaviour and fostering an atmosphere of intimidation in the workplace, with grievances encompassing allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate conduct by producers. The controversy appeared to extend to some of her on-air interactions with guests as well.

Several months prior, in November 2019, Dakota Johnson made an appearance on the talk show, during which DeGeneres said she hadn't received an invitation to the actress' 30th birthday celebration. Johnson delivered the now-iconic retort: "Actually, no, that's not the truth, Ellen. You were invited."

She continued, explaining that DeGeneres had previously been upset about missing out on an invitation to her birthday celebration, which prompted her to extend an invite this time.

"I didn't even know you liked me!" Johnson remarked. "But I did invite you and you didn't come, so."

The claims swiftly soured public opinion towards the presenter, transforming her from a cherished A-list figure into one of the most unpopular personalities in showbusiness. Viewing figures plummeted and sponsors began pulling out of their agreements.

"And after 19 seasons, the Ellen DeGeneres Show was cancelled in 2022," the video disclosed.

DeGeneres swiftly issued a public apology to former staff members and guests who had appeared on her programme, but the harm had been inflicted. Her fanbase had abandoned her, forcing her retreat from public life.

Since departing Hollywood, she and her wife Portia de Rossihave relocated to the Cotswolds in the wake of Donald Trump's presidential election win.

The couple purchased a Cotswolds property believed to be valued at approximately £20 million and have since been exploring various villages and local attractions. They've even been photographed visiting Jeremy Clarkson's The Farmer's Dog pub in Burford.

In glimpses of the property shared on social media, the house features an open-plan layout connecting the kitchen, dining room and living room. Expansive floor-to-ceiling windows provide sweeping views of the verdant rear garden in photographs the comedian posted to her Instagram.

The interior design is subtle, featuring a tiled dining table surrounded by eight leather chairs, a glass coffee table, and a lounge chair positioned on soft grey and ecru rugs.

However, the star attempted a comeback years later to revive her stand-up comedy career, and in 2024, she launched a Netflix stand-up special alongside a farewell comedy tour.

"She addressed the scandals on stage, admitting 'I got kicked out of show business for being mean, but critics slammed her comeback and self-pitying," the video explained. "Instead of winning back fans, her attempts at redemption fell flat, forcing her to retire from her comedy career.

"As of 2025, Ellen is 66, officially retired and living out of the spotlight," the video explained.
