According to the story of Shiva Mahapuran…

According to the story of Shiva Mahapuran, once upon a time there was a demon named Bhasmasur. He was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. He also had a desire to rule the entire world. So he started rigorous penance to get a boon from Lord Shiva. One day after thousands of years, Lord Shiva was pleased with his penance and appeared before him. Then he told Bhasmasur to ask for the boon he wanted.

On this Bhasmasur said to Lord Shiva, O Lord! Give me this boon that whoever's head I lay my hand on will be burnt to ashes. After this, Lord Shiva said Amen and gave him this power. After receiving the boon, Bhasmasur's heart was filled with deceit and deceit. He thought of incinerating Mahadev himself and ran after him.

Shri Hari took Mohini incarnation to protect Mahadev.

Mahadev escaped from Bhasmasur and reached Brahmalok. Where Lord Brahma became frightened after hearing his words. After this, Lord Shiva ran to Vaikuntha and requested Shri Hari Vishnu for his protection. Then Shri Hari Vishnu incarnated in the form of Mohini to protect Mahadev. Shri Hari Vishnu in the form of Mohini went to Bhasmasura. Seeing the very beautiful woman in front of him, Bhasmasur lost his senses.

Not only this, Bhasmasur also proposed marriage to Mohini. On this Mohini said, O demon king! I like you, but I have a resolution that I will marry only that man who knows how to dance like me. Hearing this, Bhasmasur became a little worried and expressed his desire to learn dance from Mohini.

The demon burnt himself to ashes

After this, Bhasmasura would also repeat the dance that Mohini performed. Meanwhile, while dancing, Mohini placed her right hand on her head. Seeing Mohini doing this, Bhasmasur also placed his hand on his head. Then, as per the boon of Lord Shiva, he was burnt to ashes at that very moment.
