Queen Elizabeth summed up Donald Trump in two blunt words

Donald Trump was characterised as "very rude" by Queen Elizabeth, according to a 2024 biography documenting some of her meetings with global leaders and her private views of them.

In A Voyage Around the Queen, by author Craig Brown - which was released in 2024 and subsequently serialised in the Daily Mail - he reports the Queen made the observation during a private lunch "a few weeks after" one of Trump's trips to the UK.

"A few weeks after President Trump's visit, for instance, she confided in one lunch guest that she found him 'very rude'," Brown wrote.

He also alleged the Queen "particularly disliked the way he couldn't stop looking over her shoulder, as though in search of others more interesting."

The biography additionally recounts how the Queen reportedly commented on Trump's marriage, stating she believed the US president "must have some sort of arrangement" with his wife Melania.

She apparently followed this by questioning how, otherwise, she would have "remained married to him.", reports the Mirror US.

Brown drew comparisons with the Queen's extensive experience receiving contentious figures. "Over the course of her reign, Her Majesty entertained many controversial foreign leaders, including Bashar al-Assad, Robert Mugabe, Idi Amin, Donald Trump, Emperor Hirohito and Vladimir Putin."

He added: "She may not have found their company convivial; upon their departure, she may even have voiced a discreet word of disapproval."

Queen Elizabeth first met Trump in 2018, just a year following his inauguration as the 45th president of the United States for his initial four-year term.

Whilst not an official state visit, that "working visit" was characterised by demonstrations across London and even a giant "baby blimp" portraying Trump.

Subsequently, the head of state was understood to have arrived behind schedule, which left the 92 year old Queen waiting "in warm conditions".

Observers also highlighted the president had repeatedly walked ahead of the Queen during the inspection of the Guard of Honour, before suddenly halting, forcing her to walk alongside him.

Following the visit, Trump conveyed assurance that the meeting had proceeded smoothly - telling Fox News: "There are those that say they have never seen the Queen have a better time, a more animated time."

The two nations conducted a complete state visit the following year, which was received more favourably by the public - apart from a momentary incident in which he allegedly placed his hand on the Queen's back whilst praising her as a "great, great woman" during a toast, a gesture that purportedly breached Royal protocol.

He subsequently told Fox News: "We were laughing and having fun. And her people said she hasn't had so much fun in 25 years."

Buckingham Palace has not responded to the allegations in Brown's book, and Palace sources have previously characterised Trump as a "model" guest who was courteous and charming to staff. Trump has regularly voiced his reverence for the late Queen.

After her passing, he said: "Melania and I are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II."

He continued: "What a grand and beautiful lady she was – there was nobody like her!".

Now, with King Charles at the helm, ties between Trump and the Royal Family appear to have remained cordial.

During a US state visit in September 2025, the King commended Trump's dedication to "finding solutions to some of the world's most intractable conflicts," whilst Trump remarked that "special does not begin to do it justice" when characterising the US-UK relationship.
