AI Talent War: Yann LeCun, considered the “godfather” of the artificial intelligence (AI) world, has said goodbye to Facebook’s parent company, Meta. His decision has shocked the entire tech industry. LeCun has seriously accused Silicon Valley’s giant companies of blindly pursuing LLMs and stifling innovation.
He said, “Imagine the world’s most intelligent people running on the same path, knowing that it may not lead to their destination.” A similar storm has erupted in the world of technology, shaking the foundations of Silicon Valley. Yann LeCun, known as the “Godfather” of AI revolution, has revealed a truth that major tech companies have been hiding until now. His resignation from a giant company like Meta has raised the question: will the super-intelligence we dream of ever become a reality?
The AI talent war is raging in Silicon Valley
Yann LeCun recently raised serious questions about the functioning of the entire tech industry in a speech that went viral on social media. He described the current era as “LLM-pilled.” LeCun believes that Silicon Valley companies are obsessed with creating the same large language models (LLMs). According to him, this situation is like everyone digging deeper into the same hole, while the need is to dig elsewhere. He warned that companies are poaching each other’s engineers simply to prevent rivals from creating anything new or different. This “talent war” has become a strategic weapon to stifle innovation rather than foster it.
Has Meta lost its way?
The story of LeCun’s departure as Meta’s Chief AI Scientist is quite interesting. When Mark Zuckerberg launched Meta Superintelligence Labs in June 2025 with a massive investment of $14.3 billion, the company’s entire focus was on winning the LLM race. The new lab was headed by Alexandr Wang, former CEO of Scale AI. LeCun explained that even within Meta, the scope of research had narrowed to LLM. He felt the company had strayed from the path necessary to make AI truly intelligent. Due to this ideological difference, he decided to leave Meta and establish his own lab, which would work on “world models.”
The path to the future and new challenges
Yann LeCun’s departure isn’t just a resignation, but rather marks the beginning of a new chapter in AI research. He is now focused on building systems that can plan and understand situations like humans. LeCun’s move is a message to young researchers who are merely following the crowd. He believes that if we truly want to create machines that can help human civilization, we must transcend the boundaries of language and incorporate the principles of cause and effect into AI intelligence.
