A big Star Wars: Starfighter rumor was making the rounds recently, but has since been debunked by the film’s writer.
What trend is Star Wars: Starfighter bucking?
Over the past few weeks, a big rumor began circulating that Starfighter will feature a big cameo at the end of the movie. Many fans began theorizing who that could be, with many pointing to the fact that it could be Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker.
However, writer Jonathan Tropper has since debunked that rumor, and poured some water on the chance of any former Star Wars characters appearing. Speaking to ScreenRant, Tropper highlighted that Starfighter’s cast and characters are entirely new to the world of Star Wars.
“Obviously, lightsabers are a part of that universe and that part of that galaxy,” said Tropper when asked about the reports of a potential lightsaber fight in the movie. “I’m so careful not to reveal anything, but essentially, I think it’s known that we have no legacy characters. You’re not going to see any of the characters you’ve seen in the other movies. So there are certain things that are still hallmarks of Star Wars that it’s good to have in there. But more than that, I can’t say.”
Star Wars: Starfighter will take place approximately five years after the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and will be a standalone project, according to Levy. “This is a standalone. It’s not a prequel, not a sequel. It’s a new adventure. It’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet.”
Star Wars: Starfighter will be released in United States theaters on May 28, 2027, from Lucasfilm. The only other Star Wars movie with a theatrical release date at this time is The Mandalorian and Grogu, which arrives about a year earlier, on May 22, 2026.
