Nowadays, electricity has become the biggest necessity for every household. But as amenities increase, electricity bills are becoming a heavy burden on the pockets of ordinary people. The rooftop solar system has emerged as a solution to this problem. Now, people are not only reducing their electricity bills by installing solar panels on their rooftops but are also benefiting from lakhs of rupees in subsidies from the government.

Under the Government of India's Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar, Free Electricity Scheme, homeowners are being provided financial assistance for installing solar panels. This scheme is proving to be extremely beneficial for people, especially in states like Uttar Pradesh. So, let's find out how much the PM Surya Ghar Yojana costs and how much a 5-kilowatt panel will cost.

What is the PM Surya Ghar Yojana?

The Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana is an important scheme of the Government of India, aimed at providing affordable and clean electricity to the common citizens of the country. Under this scheme, rooftop solar systems are installed on the roofs of houses, and the government provides subsidies on the cost.

The biggest advantage of this scheme is that after installing the solar system, you can generate your own electricity and also get credit through net metering by sending the excess electricity back to the grid.

What is a 5-kilowatt solar system?

A 5-kilowatt solar system is considered perfect for medium to large homes. This system is usually suitable for families living in 3BHK to 5BHK houses with a monthly electricity consumption of 600 to 750 units, and where heavy appliances like ACs, refrigerators, washing machines, and geysers are used. By installing a 5-kilowatt solar system, you can save approximately ₹5,000 to ₹7,000 on your electricity bill every month. Cost of a 5 kW Solar System in Uttar Pradesh

The total cost of installing a 5 kW rooftop solar system in Uttar Pradesh in 2025 is approximately ₹3,00,000 to ₹3,20,000. This price typically includes high-quality Tier-1 solar panels, an MNRE-approved grid-tied inverter, mounting structures for the panels, wiring and necessary connectors, installation and testing, and complete net metering setup.
