Kamaal R Khan: Actor and self-described film critic Kamaal R Khan has been remanded to judicial custody in connection with the ongoing investigation into a firing incident reported from Mumbai’s Oshiwara area. The Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court passed the order on Tuesday after Khan was produced before the bench following the completion of his police custody.

The case remains under active investigation, with law enforcement authorities continuing to assess physical evidence, witness statements, and other material linked to the incident. Khan will remain in judicial custody as the inquiry progresses, and the court is expected to announce the next hearing date in the coming days.

Court Orders Judicial Custody After Police Remand Ends

Khan was presented before the Andheri court after his police remand concluded. Based on the submissions made and the current status of the investigation, the magistrate directed that he be sent to judicial custody. This means he will now be lodged in jail while the probe continues, rather than remaining in police custody for further questioning.

Officials indicated that the remand decision was procedural and does not reflect a conclusion on guilt or innocence. The investigation remains at a preliminary stage, and further developments are anticipated as evidence is reviewed.

Arrest Followed Questioning by Mumbai Police

The Mumbai Police arrested Khan last week after questioning him in connection with the firing incident. According to officials familiar with the case, the incident occurred inside a residential building in the Oshiwara locality, prompting swift police action once the matter was reported.

Following the report, investigators examined CCTV footage from the surrounding area and recorded statements from multiple individuals believed to have information relevant to the case. Based on these findings, Khan was taken into custody for further questioning.

Police Cite Use of Licensed Firearm

During the course of the inquiry, police stated that Khan acknowledged during questioning that a shot was fired using a firearm licensed in his name. On this basis, he was formally detained in the case. He was later produced before a Bandra court, which granted police custody until January 27 to allow investigators to continue their examination.

Authorities have not disclosed additional technical details related to ballistic analysis or forensic findings, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. Officials maintain that all relevant aspects of the incident are being thoroughly examined.

Defence Claims Case Is Fabricated

Khan’s legal team has strongly contested the police version of events. Advocate Nagesh Mishra, appearing on behalf of the actor, described the case as baseless and alleged that his client has been wrongly implicated.

According to Mishra, the central claim made by investigators does not align with basic technical facts. He argued that the firearm in question has a limited firing range of approximately 20 metres, while the location cited by police is said to be nearly 400 metres away. On this basis, he asserted that the alleged sequence of events is not physically possible.

Allegations of External Pressure Raised

The defence further alleged that Khan is being targeted due to opposition from influential figures within the film industry. Mishra claimed that external pressure from unnamed individuals has influenced the direction of the investigation, leading to what he described as a false implication.

Reiterating his client’s position, the advocate maintained that Khan has no connection to the firing incident and that there is no direct link between the alleged offence and the accused. He added that the defence intends to challenge the prosecution’s claims as the case moves forward in court.

Investigation Continues as Hearing Awaited

Police officials have not responded publicly to the allegations raised by the defence but have stated that the investigation is being conducted in accordance with the law and based solely on available evidence. As Khan remains in judicial custody, further legal proceedings are expected once the court schedules the next hearing.

The case has drawn attention due to Khan’s public profile, but authorities have emphasized that standard legal procedures are being followed as the matter progresses.
