The first boat ambulance in Dakshina Kannada district, constructed by the Ullal Regional Traditional Boat and Gill Net Fishermen’s Association, was inaugurated on Monday at the Jappinamogaru riverbank by Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader.

Speaking on the occasion, Khader said the boat ambulance service would play a crucial role in saving the lives of fishermen. He appreciated the fishermen for conceptualising and implementing the project themselves, stating that it could serve as a model for the state government in the future.

Legislative Council member B.M. Farooq said rescue operations at sea were equivalent to divine service and wished the initiative greater strength, while also expressing hope for the economic security of fishermen.

The programme was presided over by association president Haneef Solar. Former Sayyid Madani Dargah president Abdul Rasheed welcomed the gathering, and Mohan Shirlal compered the event.

Flag Hoisting on the River

After inaugurating the boat ambulance, Khader and B.M. Farooq travelled in the boat and marked Republic Day celebrations by hoisting the national flag in the middle of the river, drawing public attention.

About the Boat Ambulance

The boat ambulance has been developed to provide emergency rescue and medical assistance during fishing-related accidents in rivers and the sea. It can accommodate up to 30 persons and will be used exclusively for emergency rescue operations.

The service will operate from the Ullal jetty with a trained team of 15 personnel, including drivers. The boat is equipped with a siren, emergency red lights, stretcher, oxygen supply, medical equipment, life jackets and trained healthcare staff.
