Melbourne: Australian fast bowler Kane Richardson has announced his retirement from professional cricket at the age of 34. He played 25 ODIs and 36 T20 Internationals for Australia and was part of the team that won the T20 World Cup in 2021. Representing the Northern Territory and South Australia domestically, Richardson made his List-A debut in the 2008–09 season and his international debut came in 2013 in an ODI against Sri Lanka.
Richardson has had an illustrious Big Bash League (BBL) career and is one of the few players to have played in every season. He played six seasons with the Adelaide Strikers, before moving to the Melbourne Renegades in 2017–18, representing them for eight seasons before signing a one-year deal with the Sydney Sixers ahead of the 2025–26 season. He ends his career as the fifth highest wicket taker in this tournament with 142 wickets. Richardson was also a global player, representing franchise teams in different tournaments including the Indian Premier League (IPL).
A statement from Richardson said, “Since making my debut in 2009, I feel I have squeezed every ounce of myself out of it and it is the right time to end such a fun part of my life. I have been privileged to represent my country as well as many franchise teams around the world and in Australia. I have never taken this opportunity for granted and I hope those watching knew I loved it as a child in Darwin. Had dreamed of becoming a cricketer.”
