Now if you too are surprised after reading this news then take a deep breath. KL Rahul also says that there is still time left in all this. That means KL Rahul is not going to retire yet. However, he says that ever since he became a father, his outlook towards life has completely changed.
What did KL Rahul say?
In a conversation with former England captain Kevin Pietersen, Rahul said that retiring will not be a difficult decision because there is life beyond cricket. The 33-year-old Rahul, a key player for India’s Test and ODI teams, told Pietersen on his YouTube channel, ‘I have thought about it. I don’t think it (retirement) will be that difficult. If you are honest with yourself, there will be no point in postponing it when the time comes. Certainly it will take some time.
Rahul has scored 4,053 runs in 67 Test matches at an average of 35.8 and 3,360 runs in 94 ODI matches at an average of 50.9. He has also scored 2,265 runs in 72 T20 International matches at an average of 37.75 and strike rate of 139. Rahul said that he does not consider himself a superstar or a very important person, which he feels will make the decision of retirement easier in the future.
What did you say about injury and family?
He further said, ‘Just quit (playing) quietly. Enjoy what you have. You have a family too, so just do what you feel like. This is the most difficult. So I try to convince myself that I am not very important. Cricket will continue in our country. Cricket will continue across the world. There are more important things in life and I think this has always been my thinking, but ever since I became a father, my outlook towards life has completely changed. This is my thinking.
The stylish batsman also opened up about the toughest challenge he has faced – battling through several injuries which have left him raising questions about his continuity at the top level. He said, ‘There were times when I got injured. I have been injured many times and that is the toughest challenge. This is not the pain that physiotherapists or surgeons give you. This is a mental conflict where your mind gives up. When this happens again and again, your mind starts thinking, you have done too much. You have been lucky that cricket has given you enough money. You may live many more years with this.’
Let us tell you that Rahul will play for Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy match against Punjab in Mohali on Thursday.
