Bindra led the BCCI from 1993 to 1996 and was widely respected for his vision and leadership in shaping modern Indian cricket. During his tenure, he played a key role in strengthening India’s presence in international cricket and in bringing major events like the 1987 and 1996 Cricket World Cups to the subcontinent.
Beyond his work with the BCCI, Bindra also served as President of the Punjab Cricket Association for decades, helping develop cricket infrastructure in the region. The PCA Stadium in Mohali was renamed the I.S. Bindra Stadium in 2015 to honour his contributions.
BCCI President Mithun Manhas described Bindra as a “visionary administrator” whose work helped build systems and institutions that continue to benefit Indian cricket. Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia said Indian cricket had lost one of its most influential architects.
Cricket figures including former India players also paid tribute, remembering Bindra’s long service to the game and his lasting impact on its growth and popularity in the country.
His death marks the passing of a key figure in Indian cricket’s administration history.
