Most of the students in the world go to study abroad from India. But the picture is not entirely uniform. NITI Aayog figures show that students from every state of the country are not going abroad. Only a few states have made consistent progress in this matter. This is the reason why the trend of studying abroad is not seen in the entire country but is limited to limited areas.
What does the NITI Aayog report say?
The NITI Aayog report is based on data from 2016 to 2020. This period also includes the time of Corona. The report clearly shows that only those states which were ahead earlier remained at the top. The entry of new states was very less. That means, the pattern of going abroad has been almost the same for years.
Which state remains number one?
Andhra Pradesh has remained number one in this list for the last several years. Most of the students from here go to study and settle abroad. Its continuous growth is visible in the figures. Awareness regarding education and preparation to go abroad is considered stronger here. This is the reason why this state has remained on top for years.
What is the situation of Punjab and Maharashtra?
Punjab remains at second position after Andhra Pradesh. The trend of going abroad from Punjab is quite old. Maharashtra usually remains at number three. Although the ranking of these two keeps changing sometimes. But these states have not been out of the top three for a long time. Studying abroad is seen here as being linked to a better future.
How strong is the presence of other states?
Gujarat has rapidly made a place in this list in recent years. Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka have also been maintaining their position for a long time. The level of education in these states is considered better. Information and resources about studying abroad are easily available. That is why these states continuously remain in this race.
Why did the trend not change even in Corona?
The whole world came to a standstill during the Corona epidemic. But there was not much change in the trend of students going abroad. Andhra Pradesh remained on top even in the year 2020. During this period, Punjab left Maharashtra behind. This makes it clear that this trend is not temporary but deeply rooted.
Why was Uttar Pradesh left behind?
Uttar Pradesh is the largest state of the country. Despite this, it is quite low in the list. This shows that the idea of going abroad is not the same everywhere. The difference in resources, awareness and preparation is clearly visible. This is the reason why the dream of studying abroad is limited to a few states only.
