Thirthahalli: A 29-year-old postpartum woman died while being taken to hospital in Thirthahalli, raising allegations of negligence by the local health department.

The deceased has been identified as Kavya. According to her family, she suddenly developed severe pain in her leg, following which they tried to call an ambulance. However, they were unable to contact ambulance services due to network issues. The family then decided to take her to the hospital in a car, but she died on the way.

Kavya had delivered a baby on January 1, but the newborn had died soon after birth. Family members said there were concerns about her physical and mental health following the delivery. Kavya, wife of Malige postmaster Manjunath, had gone to her parental home at Chikkanahalli in Demlapura village near Konandur after childbirth.

Relatives alleged that when her health condition worsened at her parental home, no ASHA workers or health officials visited the house to examine her. They claimed this showed negligence on the part of the local health department.

Responding to the incident, the Thirthahalli tahsildar said the woman had been married for seven years and that a visit and inspection had been carried out as part of the inquiry. He said the administration was examining the case from different angles.

The tahsildar also stated that the village was a remote area, and residents had reported network connectivity issues and other difficulties. He added that some remote villages lack proper medical facilities, which can lead to such incidents. The exact cause of death would be known only after a detailed investigation, he said.
