Ram destroyed Ravan, who was intoxicated with knowledge, wealth and power. Krishn brought about the fall of Kans, who was drunk on wealth and illusion of authority. You must be vigilant against the enemy within. There is a real possibility that you may succumb to the temptation of exploiting your subordinates, misappropriate money from your organisation, and evade taxes and duties payable to gov.

The desire to gratify these tendencies is a monster that grows within. You need to overcome it before it takes control of your life. Be constantly aware of the need for transcendence. Transcend boundaries of the physical, financial and intellectual and enter the arena of the soul. Even as you participate in rituals, get into their deeper significance. Even as you acquire knowledge and wealth, think of its value to yourself and others. Close your eyes. Shut out all intrusions.

Concentrate on the essential, not the peripheral. Meditate on meaning. Imagine yourself under a gentle waterfall with divine blessings showering on you. Every satsang has a central principle of transformation: company of the wise leads us to disassociation from internal negative states such as delusion, anger and frustration.

Along the way, we shed all those negative passions that keep us down, like moh, greed; mada, pride; and matsarya, jealousy. Vairagya, detachment, is a healthy attitude towards vagaries of life. It enables us to stay unruffled in times of stress and sorrow, and not to be carried away by excitement in times of joy and happiness. Bhakti is what enables us to define ourselves in relation to God.
