After the tremendous success of *Border 2*, released on January 23, 2026, speculations have intensified regarding its third part. Producer Bhushan Kumar, in an exclusive interview to Hindustan Times, has given a definite indication that there is a possibility of *Border 3* being made, although not immediately.
Bhushan Kumar and director Anurag Singh told that before giving priority to *Border 2*, they were initially working together on a different project. Now, they are planning to restart that project as a joint production between T-Series and Anurag’s company. Bhushan said, “He will direct it, and it will be something new. Border 3 will be made at the right time.”
He stressed the potential of the franchise, saying: “Obviously, it’s such a big franchise. Anurag has worked very hard to recreate it. If you bring something back after almost 30 years and it’s getting so much love, we will definitely take it forward.” This happened when J.P. *Border 2*, the standalone sequel to Dutta’s 1997 classic film, has touched the hearts of the audience with its patriotic theme and emotional story.
*Border 2* is directed by Anurag Singh, who has co-written the screenplay with Sumit Arora. T-Series and J.P. Under Films Bhushan Kumar, J.P. Dutta, Nidhi Dutta and Krishna Kumar have produced it. The film stars Sunny Deol along with a huge cast of Diljit Dosanjh, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty and others. Based on the India-Pakistan War of 1971, the film carries forward the legacy of the original film with high-octane action and heart-touching moments.
**Box Office Performance**
According to trade tracker Sacknilk (updated on January 27, 2026), *Border 2* has made a stellar collection in its first week. Net collections in India were around ₹177–₹185 crore (a massive increase of ₹59 crore on Day 4/Republic Day), gross collections in India were ₹212.2 crore, overseas ₹35 crore and worldwide gross collections were ₹247.2–₹263 crore (this may vary depending on the source and time). The film benefited greatly from the Republic Day holiday, good reviews and tremendous appeal in tier-2/3 cities.
The ongoing buzz around *Border 3* points towards the revival of the franchise, but no official timeline or cast information has been confirmed yet. Fans can expect more updates as the team is focusing on their upcoming joint project first.
