The Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $43 million for the January 28 drawing after no ticket matched all six numbers on Monday, reigniting excitement among players nationwide. The eventual winner will have the option of taking the full $43 million prize as a 30-year annuity with payments increasing by 5 percent annually, or a lump-sum payout of approximately $19.4 million before taxes.

Lottery officials continue to caution that the odds of winning the jackpot remain extremely slim at 1 in 292.2 million. Despite the long odds, Powerball remains hugely popular, operating across 45 states, Washington, DC, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

The current jackpot follows a reset after a single ticket claimed the estimated $209 million prize on Wednesday, January 21. That winning ticket, sold in North Carolina, matched all five white balls along with the red Powerball.

The game last reached historic heights in December 2025, when an Arkansas man won a record-setting $1.817 billion Powerball jackpot on Christmas Eve, the second-largest lottery win in US history.
