Former Indian bowler Zaheer Khan chose Jasprit Bumrah as the best T20I bowler because he considered Bumrah better than Lasith Malinga. The retired Sri Lankan pace legend who had been his opposition at the time became his second choice after Bumrah who he considered to be the best.

The Ahmedabad-born quick not only dominates T20Is but continues to shine in the other two formats as well. Since his 2016 debut the right-arm pacer has participated in 85 T20I matches while achieving 106 wickets at an 18.09 bowling average. He achieved his best performance with bowling statistics of 4-1-7-3 during the 2024 T20 World Cup match against Afghanistan which took place at Bridgetown in Barbados.

Zaheer discussed Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Dale Steyn, Mohammad Amir, Umar Gul and other players when he spoke to Cricbuzz. The selection process ended with Bumrah and Malinga as the final two options which received endorsement from the 47-year-old who supported the Indian player.

Bumrah achieved 15 wickets during the 2024 T20 World Cup because he played eight innings with an exceptional average of 8.26. His outstanding performance during the tournament won him the Player of the Tournament award because he delivered an exceptional bowling performance with 4-0-18-2 figures in the final match against South Africa. Bumrah became the third Indian bowler to achieve 100 T20I wickets after Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya reached that milestone. Malinga taught him how to throw deadly yorkers which batters find difficult to hit when they played together on the Mumbai Indians team.

The right-arm fast bowler received Player of the Match honors because he achieved 2 wickets while delivering 4 overs and conceding 17 runs in the third T20I match against New Zealand. The star seamer joked about critics who doubted his unusual action and believed he wouldn’t last more than six months at the highest level.

Bumrah who currently stands at 32 years old will return to his important position in the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
