The Bihar government is running the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme to provide financial support to poor and needy widows. This scheme is operated by the state's Social Welfare Department. Under this scheme, widows aged 40 to 79 years belonging to the BPL (Below Poverty Line) category are given a monthly pension so that they can live with dignity. So, let's tell you how much money the Bihar government gives to widows every month and how to apply for it.
Bihar Government Gives Rs. 1100 to Widows Every Month
Earlier, under this scheme, the Bihar government provided a pension of Rs. 400 per month to widows. But in 2025, the Bihar government increased this amount to Rs. 1100 per month. The government says that this increased amount will help women meet their daily needs and provide them with financial security. Under this scheme, the pension amount is directly transferred to the beneficiary women's bank accounts through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer). The money is transferred to the account on a fixed date every month through the PFMS (Public Financial Management System) at the state level.
Who can avail of this scheme?
Women who are residents of Bihar, are widows, and are between 40 and 79 years of age can avail of this scheme. In addition, to avail of this scheme, the woman must belong to a BPL family and should not be receiving benefits from any other social security pension scheme. Such women are considered eligible for this scheme.

To apply for the widow pension scheme, a signed application form along with the required documents must be submitted at the RTPS counter of the Block Office. After submitting the application, a receipt is provided, which must be kept safe. Information regarding the acceptance or rejection of the application is provided via SMS or email. Upon approval, the order can be collected from the RTPS counter by showing the identity card and receipt. After this, the widow's pension for the women begins.
