On Wednesday, Pune's rural police superintendent, Sandeep Singh, reported that a plane crash occurred around 8:40 AM, resulting in the deaths of all five individuals on board, including Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The bodies have been transported to a nearby hospital for identification. Speaking to reporters, Singh stated, "The aircraft carrying five people crashed just before landing this morning. All five have lost their lives, and their remains have been taken to the local hospital. We will provide updates once the identification process is complete. A specialized team is currently at the crash site." Pawar tragically passed away while traveling from Mumbai to Baramati in a chartered flight. He had attended a meeting of Maharashtra's infrastructure committee chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai on January 27.
Investigation Underway
In the wake of the crash, a special team from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will conduct an investigation into the incident that claimed the lives of Ajit Pawar and the crew members. The investigation will involve retrieving the flight recorder, advanced ground proximity warning system (EGPWS), and digital engine electronic system (DEES). Additionally, the investigation team will collect the aircraft's airframe and engine logbooks, work orders, onboard documents, and key inspection records from the operator. They have also requested documents related to the crew and aircraft from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Radar data recordings, CCTV footage, air traffic control tape recordings, and hotline communications will be analyzed further.
