Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court strongly criticised the act of a garment shop staffer who allegedly took secret photographs of a woman customer while she was changing clothes inside a trial room. Expressing concern, the court asked where women’s safety would be if such a mindset existed.

The observations were made while hearing a criminal petition filed by the accused seeking to quash the case registered against him. The accused, Faisal Ulla Shariff (21), a resident of Lalbagh Kote Road in Doddamavalli, had approached the court challenging the criminal proceedings.

A single-judge bench of Justice M Nagaprasanna took up the matter on Tuesday. After examining the case records, the court expressed strong displeasure over the accused’s actions. Rejecting the argument that the accused was young, the court said he could not be treated as a minor and that such behaviour was unacceptable. The bench remarked that people indulging in such acts should be taught a strict lesson.

Case History

According to the prosecution, the accused Faisal Ulla Shariff was managing a garment store named “Queens Designer Wear Ladies” located on 10th ‘A’ Main Road, 4th Block, Jayanagar.

The complainant, a 28-year-old woman, had visited the shop on September 8, 2024, around 6.30 pm to purchase clothes. After selecting garments, she went into the trial room, closed the door and started changing.

During this time, she noticed a small gap on the trial room door. The charge sheet states that the accused attempted to secretly take photographs of the woman while she was changing clothes by using this gap. The investigation confirmed the attempt to capture her private photographs without her knowledge.
