Former Newsnight presenterKirsty Wark has shared some exciting personal news with fans.

She posted a sweet photograph of the baby girl in view of her 28,000 followers on Tuesday (January 27).

Alongside the adorable snap of the new arrival, Kirsty posted: "Darling Maisie. We are all so happy the stork brought you here safely. I’m beside myself at being a Grandma."

Unsurprisingly, the social media post was inundated with messages from her followers, with The One Show's Lauren Laverne writing: "How utterly fab. Congratulations."

The Traitors US host Alan Cumming added: "Congrats to all and much love."

Author Justine Picardie typed: "So adorable! Many congratulations to you all."

Kirsty has primarily spent her career working for the BBC, most notably as the longest-serving presenter of the political debate programme Newsnight until 2024.

Her career began at BBC Radio Scotland as a researcher and programme producer before switching to television.

Last year, Kirsty was honoured with the BAFTA Fellowship at the 2025 British Academy Television Awards for contributions to British media.

Since leaving Newsnight, she has continued to work for the BBC as a presenter. Including BBC Radio 4’s art and culture programme Front Row and on BBC Scotland’s 2024 election coverage.

While she no longer presents the show, Kirsty still keeps an eye on the goings on and praised the current team's latest work.

She previously said: "I watch the same way I used to watch it, which is often in the morning. And my assessment is that they get great interviews and good analysis and good American guests at the moment."

Kirsty went on to suggest that Newsnight is "still the place" to make sense of the news on weeknights.

She said: "I think y'know this is an era where there's so much going on that Newsnight is still the place to make sense of [it] all at the end of the day."

The show - which now broadcasts as 30 minute episodes - underwent a "format change" last year after first being announced by the BBC back in 2023.

She continued: "Okay, it's cut to 30 minutes. Sad about that in one way but on the other hand you have to move with the times. Y'know a good 30 minutes is fantastic at 10.30pm."
