MS Dhoni has changed his workout methods because he performed poorly during the previous Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper has been preparing since September 2025 and has now stepped up the intensity with just two months remaining before the IPL 2026 season.

The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) provided a preview of Dhoni's training session which took place a few days ago. The wicketkeeper-batter prepared for batting practice with help from former India crickiter Saurabh Tiwary who serves as the JSCA secretary.

Shahbaz Nadeem who serves as JSCA joint secretary and played for India as a spinner disclosed that Dhoni first began his training against spin bowlers before he switched to training against fast bowlers. Dhoni conducts his training sessions during the afternoon hours which start at 12 pmand end at 3 pmbecause this schedule helps him prepare for the weather conditions at MA Chidambaram Stadium where he will play seven games for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Shahbaz told the New Indian Express: “Dhoni does gym at the JSCA whenever he is in Ranchi. Now, he has started batting in the nets since last week. We have constructed a transparent indoor net facility adjacent to Oval B Ground at the complex. It has three turf wickets. one made of black soil, while the remaining two are made of mixed soils. Dhoni trains there between 12-12:30 PM and 2-2:30 PM."

Dhoni used a bat with decreased weight during the last season when he switched to a lighter batthat weighed 1230 gramsfrom his previous bat which weighed between 1250 and 1300 grams. The change failed to produce any successful outcomes. He achieved a strike rate of 135.17 which represents his lowest performance since IPL 2022. Despite that Dhoni has decided to maintain his current bat weight. He will keep using lighter bats during IPL 2026after Sareen Sports Industries (SS) delivered him special bats to Ranchi.
