Bengaluru: A case has been registered at the Puttenahalli police station against a man for allegedly installing malware software on his wife’s mobile phone without her knowledge to track her movements and activities.
The FIR was filed based on a complaint by Dr Arya Sarada (28), a doctor residing on Bannerghatta Road, Puttenahalli. The accused has been identified as her husband, Amal V Nair. The couple has been living separately since August 1, 2025, police said.
The couple has a child, and a case regarding the child’s custody is currently being heard in a family court. As per court orders, Amal was allowed to meet the child once a week. Police said that during one such visit, the accused allegedly installed malware software on his wife’s mobile phone without her consent.
According to the complaint, the software enabled the accused to monitor details such as where the complainant was going, whom she was speaking to, and where she was staying.
How the issue came to light?
On November 22, 2025, the complainant noticed that an application named “Update Service” on her mobile phone was seeking permission to access Wi-Fi expansion features. This raised suspicion, following which she checked her phone and discovered the presence of malware.
During verification, she found that her husband was responsible for installing the software. She immediately uninstalled the application on the same day and later approached the police to file a complaint.
Based on her statement, Puttenahalli police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
