Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he has asked BJP workers to file bulk form 7 against 'Miyas'.
He said he did so through video conferencing and asked BJP workers to file complaints during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision exercise.
Process of special revision of electoral rolls is underway in Assam. The Congress had earlier alleged bulk submission of Form 7 without providing any specific reasons and details under the SIR of electoral rolls in Assam and sought intervention of the chief electoral officer over the matter.
Form 7 is used for raising objections to the inclusion of a name on the voter list, or deletion of one's own or another person’s name.
Sarma while talking to media persons on Wednesday said, “It is a known fact that there are Bangladeshi Miyas in Assam. Has anybody got notice in Thowra or Dimou, no one has got any notice. If Bangladeshi Miyas do not get notice in SR then what it will mean is that there are no foreigners in Assam.”
He added, “That is why BJP workers whom they have suspected to be foreigners have filed complaints. The Election Commission will decide on the complaint. Today if we do not file any complaint tomorrow if someone says there are foreigners here and questions will be raised why there was no complaint during the SR exercise.”
Sarma said, “Giving complaints under SR is the responsibility of the people. This is not only BJP’s responsibility to file a complaint; it should have also come from other political parties and organisations however there was no complaint from them.”
The chief minister said, “Our stand is clear we are against foreigners and that is why more than five lakh complaints are filed by BJP workers. At least our workers are trying and we are trying to convey that we have not surrendered to foreigners.”

Miya’ is a pejorative term used for Bengali-speaking Muslims in Assam whose ancestors had roots in Bangladesh.
The SR exercise is slightly different from the SIR, which is a more comprehensive process. Under the SR, the focus is mainly on inclusion of voters and an existing voter’s name remains on the list unless a specific objection is raised against it.The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on February 10.
Sarma said, “By February 15 to 20 we will finalise seat sharing with allies. There will be a survey in the BJP before providing tickets. We take feedback from each booth and then due process it goes to the Central parliamentary board.”
Sarma said, “A tally of 50 candidates for 50 seats is almost ready. These are seats where there is hardly one candidate and if more props up I will talk to them.”
Please add Sarma, " We need to trouble Miyas, if the rickshaw fare is Rs 5 pay them Rs 4 and trouble them. That is how they will move out of these places."
