Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief Ajit Pawar died in a tragic plane crash on Wednesday. He was going from Mumbai to the Baramati Municipality election rally. While landing at Baramati Airport, his plane suddenly lost control and crashed. A total of six people, including Ajit Pawar, lost their lives in this accident, which sent a wave of mourning across Maharashtra.
Ajit Pawar had a narrow escape 18 months ago
This was not the first time that Ajit Pawar had come close to an air accident. In July 2024, he was going by helicopter to inaugurate a steel project in Gadchiroli. Devendra Fadnavis and Industries Minister Uday Samant were also present with him at that time. This one hour flight was extremely stressful for everyone and every moment was worth their lives.
The helicopter was lost in dense clouds
While flying over Nagpur, the helicopter suddenly got stuck in dense clouds. There were clouds all around and visibility was almost gone. The helicopter also lost its way for some time. However, the pilot showed wisdom and controlled the situation and made a safe landing. At that time the breathing of all the passengers was stuck.
Fadnavis had given encouragement
Ajit Pawar sitting in the helicopter looked very nervous and was repeatedly looking out of the window. Whereas Devendra Fadnavis was calm, because he had gone through many such dangerous situations before. He consoled Ajit Pawar and assured that everything will be fine. Later Ajit Pawar also shared this experience from the stage.

Baramati accident changed everything
About 18 months after that incident, the plane crash in Baramati became the last journey of Ajit Pawar’s life. His Learjet 45XR plane went haywire during landing and crashed. Also on board the aircraft were his personal security officer, attendants and two crew members—the pilot-in-command and the second-in-command. Everyone died on the spot. Devendra Fadnavis described the accident as “unbelievable” and said that he has lost a true friend, who can never be compensated.
