New Delhi, Jan 29: Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has expressed his heartfelt wishes for the Vande Mataram CISF Cyclothon 2026, describing it as a powerful emblem of discipline, commitment, and perseverance.

The CISF Vande Mataram Coastal Cyclothon 2026, a prominent national initiative aimed at public outreach and awareness, was officially launched virtually from the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium on Wednesday. The event was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Nityanand Rai, who attended as the Chief Guest.

With this launch, the 25-day extensive national campaign has officially begun, as two CISF cycling teams set off simultaneously from Bakkhali in West Bengal and Lakhpat in Gujarat. These teams will cover around 6,500 kilometers along the eastern and western coastlines of India, passing through nine coastal states and two Union Territories, concluding in Kochi on February 22, 2026.

In a video shared by CISF on its X handle, Raina wished the entire CISF team good luck, stating, "I hope the CISF marathon will be enjoyable and filled with enthusiasm. Please participate. All the best!" He emphasized the link between sporting excellence and national service, commending CISF personnel for their unwavering efforts in promoting the vital importance of maritime security in India.

CISF responded on X, stating, "Such motivating words from a legendary athlete further bolster CISF’s commitment to impactful initiatives for the nation’s benefit."

Throughout the journey, the Cyclothon will make stops at 52 coastal villages, which will be adopted by CISF for ongoing engagement over the year. In collaboration with key stakeholders like ONGC, Port Authorities, and other maritime organizations, local CISF units will carry out community welfare and infrastructure development projects, supported by Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

With 47 CISF units positioned along India’s coastline, the Force is dedicated to maintaining long-term relationships with these adopted villages. Notably, women make up 50 percent of the participating cyclists, marking a significant advancement towards gender inclusivity and empowerment in national service efforts.

The Cyclothon will feature participation from prominent figures in sports, culture, and the film industry during major events in cities such as Mumbai, Goa, Mangaluru, Konark, Visakhapatnam, and Chennai, culminating in Kochi.
