Feature tracker WABetaInfo has spotted a popup message asking for an optional subscription tier in WhatsApp beta version 2.26.4.8 for Android. It is currently rolling out through the Google Play Beta program. This feature is currently in the development phase, which means that even after updating the app to the latest beta version, it cannot be used at the moment.
WABetaInfo claims that the messaging platform is planning to launch a premium subscription that will unlock extra personalization and productivity. WhatsApp is expected to roll out this plan through the waitlist system. Users who join the waitlist will receive a message when the subscription becomes available and can then choose the option to subscribe.
A screenshot shared of the feature tracker shows that the first set of premium features include special stickers, new app themes, and the ability to pin more than three chats. WhatsApp is also reportedly working on a dedicated set of chat ringtones and the option to integrate app icons, allowing users to choose from several new icon designs. These features are expected to give users more control over the look and feel of the app.
