South Africa News In Hindi: A horrific road accident occurred in the eastern KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa on Thursday, January 29, 2026, which has shocked the entire country. At least 11 people have tragically died in a head-on collision between a minibus taxi and a large truck near the city of Durban.
Local government officials and emergency services have confirmed the horrific incident. The collision was so strong that the minibus was blown to pieces and the help of heavy machines had to be taken for relief operations.
11 people died on the spot itself
Siboniso Duma, a senior official at the provincial transport department, said in an official statement that all 11 victims died at the scene. The most heartbreaking thing is that these dead also include a school child who became a victim of this accident before reaching his destination.
Private Paramedic Service &8216;ALS Paramedics&8217; According to spokesman Garith Jamieson, several other people were seriously injured in the accident. The injured also included the driver of the minibus who was badly trapped under the debris and the rescue team had to struggle a lot to free him.
Truck driver’s negligence came to light
Preliminary investigation into the cause of the accident and statements of eyewitnesses have raised serious questions on the role of the truck driver. Witnesses allege that the truck driver suddenly tried to take a U-turn in the middle of the road due to which the minibus coming at high speed from the front did not get a chance to control itself and there was a head-on collision between the two vehicles. The police are now investigating the matter from a criminal angle.
Second major accident within a week
This incident is all the more serious because exactly a week earlier on January 19, 14 schoolchildren had lost their lives in a similar accident near Johannesburg. In that accident too, a minibus taxi and a truck collided, in which officials found the minibus driver guilty of negligent overtaking. The driver of the previous accident has been arrested and 14 cases of murder have been registered against him.
Transportation challenges in South Africa
Road safety remains a major problem in South Africa. Minibus taxis are the most preferred mode of public transport here, used by about 70 percent of commuters daily to go to work or school. However, carelessness of drivers and violation of traffic rules often takes a toll on the lives of innocent people. The government has ordered a thorough investigation into this latest incident to prevent such ‘death marches’ in future. Can be stopped.
