New Delhi. Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan Neeraj Dangi asked the government in the Rajya Sabha that the prices of gold and silver are continuously increasing in the country, which is having a huge impact on the economic condition of families, especially in rural areas. In the last 13 months, silver prices have increased by 306 percent and gold prices have increased by 111 percent. This boom has not only affected the savings of the common people, but the situation has become a matter of serious concern for women and families with marriageable girls.

The MP said that in rural India, gold and silver are not just ornaments, but are considered important symbols to women’s safety, self-respect and family future. But their rising prices have broken the back of common families. Small farmers, laborers and middle class families are no longer able to buy even minimum jewelery for their daughters. Because of this, families with marriageable girls are facing financial pressure and mental stress.

In a country where gold and silver are linked to women’s safety, self-respect and family future, leaving these prices unchecked reflects a seriously failed economic policy of the government. Today farmers, labourers, lower and middle class people are not able to buy even minimum jewelery for the marriage of their daughters. It is unfortunate that on one hand the government talks about women empowerment. On the other hand, heavy GST, high import duty and not checking hoarders are making women’s savings worthless. It would not be an exaggeration to say that women are being punished and the government is only giving protection to hoarders. Not only this, due to rising prices, small goldsmiths and businessmen are also facing employment crisis. My demand is that the government should intervene on gold and silver prices in the national interest, cut GST and take strict measures.

Questions on government policies

Experts say that government policies are also responsible for this situation. High GST and import duty on gold and silver, and lack of strict action against hoarders, is affecting the savings of common people. On the other hand, the government talks about women empowerment, but due to economic instability the value of savings of women and families is decreasing.

Small businessmen and goldsmiths are also worried

He says that not only the common people but also small goldsmiths and jewelery businessmen are being affected by rising prices. Their sales are declining, due to which the employment crisis is deepening. Small businessmen say that if the government does not intervene timely, it will have a negative impact on the entire jewelery industry and the many jobs associated with it.

Government should intervene

Experts and social organizations demand that the government take immediate steps to control the prices of gold and silver. For this, reduction in GST, amendment in import duty and strict action against hoarders is necessary. He says that this is not just an economic step, but also a matter to the safety and respect of women and families.

The rising prices of gold and silver are not only affecting jewelery but also the lifestyle and social structure of common people. If the government does not take immediate action, the problems of rural families will continue to increase and small businessmen will be forced out of the industry. If policy makers make the right intervention at this time, the savings and dignity of women and families can be saved.
