Currently, due to fog, numerous trains are running late every day. This includes premium trains like Shatabdi and Rajdhani, as well as Superfast and Mail trains. The biggest problem this creates is with food, as passengers carry food and drinks based on the train's scheduled arrival time. However, if you are traveling on premium trains during the winter and want free food in case of delays, you should definitely book your meals along with your ticket; otherwise, train delays could cost you extra.
IRCTC supplies more than 1.6 million meals daily on various Mail and Express trains, including premium trains like Shatabdi, Rajdhani, Tejas, Vande Bharat, and Duronto. To ensure better quality, 100 base kitchens have been established in the last three months. Food is supplied to the trains from these kitchens.
Why is meal booking important in winter?
Many people prefer to carry home-cooked food instead of eating IRCTC meals during train journeys. This is fine if the train reaches its destination on time, but delays can cause problems for such passengers. If the train is significantly delayed and you get hungry, you will have to buy food supplied by IRCTC on the train, which will be more expensive than the meals booked in advance. Thus, those who travel without booking meals may end up paying more for food.
Which passengers receive free food?
IRCTC provides free food to passengers who have booked their meals in advance. These passengers are not charged for food even if the train is delayed.
Up to three meals can be provided for free.
If you have booked your meals along with your ticket, you can receive up to three meals for free. Recently, IRCTC provided three extra meals to passengers on the Vande Bharat train. Poha and Rajma Rice too
The Vande Bharat Express was running significantly late, which is why, in addition to khichdi, delicious dishes like poha and rajma rice were also made available.
