Margot Robbie has grabbed eyeballs at the LA premiere of Wuthering Heights on 28 th January 2026, but it was not her movie that was the centre of attention. No, the real grabber was the jewellery she wore, the legendary Taj Mahal diamond necklace once owned by Elizabeth Taylor. The premiere, which was also the start of the film’s worldwide promotional campaign, took place at the TCL Chinese Theatre. Robbie plays Catherine Earnshaw in the new adaptation directed by Emerald Fennell, and her red carpet look reflected the emotional weight of the story she brings to the screen.

The Taj Mahal necklace is far from being a mere luxury accessory. At its very centre, the heart-shaped diamond can be traced back to more than 300 years ago. The gem is Persian engraved, which translates to a love message that knows no end, and also contains the name of Nur Jahan, the most influential woman in the Mughal era.
The inscription is from the time of Emperor Jahangir’s reign in the early 1600s. The diamond is said to have travelled, through various royal owners, to Shah Jahan after several years. The gem is most probably identified with Mumtaz Mahal, whose death later led to the building of the Taj Mahal.
Centuries later, the diamond once again journeyed through history until the modern era. Cartier bought the gem in the 1970s and reshaped it into a necklace, placing it on a gold chain that was gemmed with rubies. Today, this rendition is the one that most folks associate with the necklace.

The necklace gained global fame when Richard Burton purchased it as a present to Elizabeth Taylor. In fact, the piece fetched a whopping USD 9million (80 crore approx.) at auction, which made it one of the most discussed jewellery items of all time. A far lower value was accorded to it initially.
More Details On Margot Robbie’s LookFor the event, Robbie combined the timeless necklace and a Schiaparelli custom couture gown, along with styling by Andrew Mukamal. The whole outfit seemed like a nod to the old world romance, totally in sync with the vibe of Wuthering Heights.
Just a quick word at the event, Robbie gave a slight indication that the necklace was significant because of the emotions connected to it. As the story is about passionate love, heartbreak, and obsession, it was only fitting that she wore a piece of jewellery connected to one of history’s greatest love stories.
More Details On Wuthering HeightsThe movie is based on Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel and is a dark and passionate tale of the love of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. Margot Robbie takes the lead with Jacob Elordi, and the film is set to release on February 13.
