Food continues to serve as a powerful cultural bridge, and a recent viral video has once again shown how Indian cuisine connects people across borders. An American food vlogger’s attempt at cooking chicken tikka masala from scratch has earned widespread praise from Indian viewers online.

Indian flavours find global admirers

The video, shared on Instagram by Nolan Hansen, showcases his step-by-step preparation of the popular Indian dish. Chicken tikka masala, known for its rich, comforting flavours, enjoys immense popularity worldwide, and Hansen’s respectful, methodical approach resonated strongly with viewers.

Cooking it the traditional way

The clip opens with Hansen preparing a marinade using yoghurt, red chilli powder, garam masala, turmeric, coriander powder, garlic and ginger. The marinated chicken is then cooked on the stovetop before being set aside.

He goes on to sauté chopped onions until golden, adds freshly ground spices, and stirs in tomato purée, allowing the gravy to simmer gently. The chicken is finally folded into the creamy sauce and garnished with fresh coriander. The dish is served with white rice and warm naan, completing a classic meal.

Desi approval pours in

The comments section quickly filled with appreciation from Indian users. Many praised Hansen’s technique and understanding of spices. One user wrote, “I’m Indian and I love how you cook,” while another joked, “Someone please give him an Aadhaar card.” Several viewers encouraged him to try more Indian dishes, including Hyderabadi biryani, idli-sambar and garlic naan.

Social media and shared food culture

Thanks to platforms like Instagram, such cross-cultural culinary exchanges have become increasingly common. Indian food, with its depth of flavour and regional diversity, remains a favourite among global food creators.

A simple recipe, a larger connection

Beyond the recipe itself, the video highlighted how food fosters curiosity, respect and connection. For many viewers, it was heartening to see Indian cuisine prepared with care and enthusiasm, proving once again that a good meal can bring cultures closer.
