Winter season brings many challenges for health. Especially for pregnant women, this is the time to be more careful. During pregnancy, the body's immunity may become slightly weaker than normal, due to which the risk of cold, cough, sore throat and viral infections increases. In such a situation, even small carelessness can affect the health of both the mother and the baby in the womb. Many times women hesitate in taking medicine. In such a situation, it is important that you take precautions in advance and avoid falling ill.

Many things like proper eating habits, warm clothes, adequate rest, cleanliness and light physical activity play an important role in keeping pregnant women healthy. Let us know in this article what pregnant women should eat and what they should avoid to avoid cold and cough.

What do experts say?

Dr. Manini Patel, Senior Consultant Obstetrics and Gynecology, Apollo Spectra Hospital, Jaipur says that pregnant women need to boost their immunity during winter season. In such a situation, if they want to avoid cold and cough then they should consume hot things. For this, lukewarm milk, turmeric milk, pulses-vegetables, soup, porridge, khichdi and seasonal fruits should be consumed daily. But if there is a problem of cold and cough, then cold natured fruits like orange, guava and banana should be avoided.

How to boost immunity?

Experts say that to boost immunity, one should eat things rich in Vitamin C. If cough is severe, lukewarm decoction of ginger and basil can be taken as per doctor's advice. This provides relief from cold and cough and also provides necessary warmth to the body.

What things should be avoided?

According to Dr. Manini Patel, even if there is no cold, it is important to avoid cold things during the winter season during pregnancy. In such a situation, one should not consume very cold curd, juice, or things with cold nature. Also stay away from outside fried food. If there is cough or cold then it can further aggravate the problem. The most important thing is not to take any medicine without doctor's advice. If cough persists for a long time, fever or difficulty in breathing, contact a doctor immediately, so that both mother and child remain safe. Apart from this, too much tea/coffee also causes harm. This can affect the sleep and growth of the child.
