The Pakistan national cricket team will travel to Colombo on Monday after the cricket board president announces their Twenty20 World Cup participation. “Pakistan team has confirmed their flight to Colombo from Lahore with Air Lanka together with the Australia team despite World Cup participation uncertainty,” sources told Telecom Asia Sport (www.telecomasia.net). “We expect by Friday that Mohsin Naqvi the PCB chief will decide whether the team will compete in the important tournament.”

The Bangladesh cricket board director declared that World Cup organizers should invite his nation to compete in Pakistan’s event.

The International Cricket Council had rejected the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s request to move their matches from India to Sri Lanka over security fears.

Naqvi met Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Monday to receive his recommendation about team travel to the tournament.

Sources told Telecomasia.net that Prime Minister Sharif supported the Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to assist Bangladesh but recommended that they should participate in the World Cup to protect their financial interests.

“Naqvi decided to consult both President Asif Zardari and military leaders before he met two former PCB chairmen who supported the team to travel to Sri Lanka. The two advisors also told him that they should not skip the match against India,” the report quoted sources as telling www.telecomasia.net.

Pakistan will begin a three-match T20I series against Australia which will take place in Lahore starting on Thursday.

“All players have received instructions to maintain positive attitudes about their World Cup participation. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa players have brought all their home belongings because they expect to be outside Pakistan for more than 30 days.”
