Tyson Fury confirms return from retirement with upcoming fight in UK
Sandy Verma | January 30, 2026 12:24 PM CST

The bout, set to take place in the U.K., will be broadcast globally on Netflix on April 11. This marks the streaming giant’s first-ever live sports event broadcast from the U.K. The event is promoted by The Ring, with significant backing from Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, Daily Mail reported.

The specific location and side fights will be announced in due course.

“Excited to be back,” Fury wrote in the announcement. “Heart’s always been and always will be in boxing. Someone go tell the king that the ace is back.”

This comeback follows Fury’s retirement announcement in early 2025, which came after consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in May and December 2024. The 37-year-old boxer has been training in Thailand to prepare for his return.

While a domestic blockbuster against Anthony Joshua was rumored for late 2026, those plans were complicated after Joshua was involved in a tragic car crash in Nigeria in December 2025. Consequently, Fury has shifted his focus to Makhmudov for his first fight on home soil since his victory over Derek Chisora in late 2022.

Known for his dominating power, the 36-year-old Russian-born, Canada-based Makhmudov boasts an impressive record of 21 wins (19 by knockout) and 2 losses. Often nicknamed “The Lion” and known for unorthodox training methods like wrestling bears, Makhmudov recently solidified his standing with a unanimous decision victory over Britain’s Dave Allen in October 2025.

“I am thrilled about the opportunity. I’m coming to deliver a war,” Makhmudov stated. “Tyson Fury has been a big champion. I will be more ready than ever to leave with a massive W.”

The two fighters are expected to participate in a promotional tour across several cities before the fight.

Netflix’s partnership with Fury extends beyond boxing matches. The second season of the docuseries “At Home With the Furys” is scheduled to premiere this spring, alongside a new feature-length documentary titled “Fury”.

Gabe Spitzer, vice president of nonfiction sports at Netflix, described Fury as one of the most compelling figures in modern boxing and said the company was thrilled to showcase his return to the ring.

Fury is among the highest-earning athletes on the planet, ranking third on Sportico and Forbes’ 2025 list, with estimated earnings of around US$146-147 million.

According to BoxRecFury is in the top 10 active heavyweight boxers, while The Ring ranks him as the world’s number two, behind only the champion Oleksandr Usyk.
