A mum-of-three shed 90lbs in 14 months after ditching daily energy drinks and embracing small, sustainable lifestyle changes with the Simple app. Thirty-year-old Danielle Broadway, who was juggling a hectic and physically demanding life with three young children while struggling with worsening gut-health issues, said: "My main goal when starting out was just wanting to feel better. If I lost weight it would've been a huge bonus for me, but I just wanted to feel better in my gut.
She added: "What got me interested in intermittent fasting is my gut health has always been really bad, I always felt bloated, I would get sick from the most random foods that shouldn't have been making me feel bad. I hated the way I felt on a day to day basis." Whilst she acknowledges that the initial few days proved challenging, the Simple app provided recipe suggestions that suited her digestive system well. "I ended up dropping 42lbs in five months. And I changed nothing about my lifestyle, I ate better, I felt amazing, I had all this sustained energy," she explains.
One of the most significant breakthroughs for her was eliminating energy drinks. She explained: "I knew I had to cut them out eventually because I did not want to drink those for the rest of my life. Now, I have all this energy, my skin has not been breaking out, I feel amazing."
Intermittent fasting is one of the central elements within Simple and as her routine became established, Broadway describes it as a lifestyle change. "It's not something that happened overnight for me," she explains. "It took many, many months in order for me to fully commit to the lifestyle and now it's just part of my daily life.
"It had a huge snowball effect into every aspect of my life. I learned how to do more things for myself, get into new hobbies, and I started taking really good care of myself."

Broadway says that her daily fitness regime now comprises one to two fifteen minute exercises at her home in addition to going on hikes once or twice a week. "My current fitness goal is to condition myself enough to hike the Appalachian trail portion in Virginia, which is just over 530 miles."
Overall, she concludes: "If I had any advice for staying motivated with your goals, it's to be kind to yourself. Celebrate the smallest victories, you are doing amazing things out there."
There are, of course, a range of other platforms out there to help with similar issues. For instance, there's Noom, a weight management service that emphasises mindful eating rather than restrictive diets. Highly research-based, it provides extensive support to users, and claims to develop 'enjoyable' tailored programmes for individuals, with costs varying according to the package and the person.
Alternatively, MyFitnessPal is a calorie monitoring tool and BMI calculator created to help individuals achieve their goals and track their nutritional consumption. It costs approximately £19.99 per month, though some complimentary features are accessible on the application.
Boasting over 21 million downloads, a 4.7-star App Store ratingand acknowledgement as the top app of 2025 by Forbes, Simple has received excellent reviews from its users. One individual commented on Trustpilot: "I'm happy with that phone app as it keeps track of ups and downs. Drink at least 2L of water to stay hydrated. Water helps take away the food cravings."
Another added: "This app. It is very helpful to keep you motivated. Love it."
Fitness applications are subjective and another customer did deduct a star, noting: "I like the food scan feature, it really helps with food entry. I'm still navigating the app and learning how to use it."
A second said: "I enjoy the coaching. Reminders of when, what and how to eat are very helpful. As I'm not a type to do regular exercise, I choose to exercise in other ways like water aerobics; walking while playing golf and line dancing. The program doesn't seem to cover those other types of exercise."
On the whole, most people were satisfied. Another said: "This has been a great app for staying on track with my meal plan."
